Emily Hurt has an undergraduate degree in Modern European History from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Ancient History from Yale University. She has held fellowships at the American Academy in Rome and the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. Her research interests span the breadth of the ancient world, from the Greek and Phoenician migrations west in the 8th century BCE to the foundation of Constantinople in the fourth century CE. She works primarily in the period of the Roman Republic and is interested in conquest, colonization, religion, and numismatics in Roman Italy, Greece, and North Africa. Her current book project is on the destruction of cities in the Roman Mediterranean.
